Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic - Office of the Secretary

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C and evaluated under OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. This includes operating, maintaining and repairing of nonstandard and highly advanced Heating Ventilation and Air-Conditioning (HVAC) systems in large commercial buildings. AND A Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) Refrigerant Certification (Type I, II, III, or Universal) is required upon hire or within one year of employment. A Stationary Engineers license or equivalent is highly preferred. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. As an Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic, you will perform the following duties: Operates, maintains, and troubleshoots specialized equipment, ensuring optimal performance, energy efficiency, and user satisfaction. Installs, modifies, maintains, and repairs a variety of building HVAC systems, including the Chilled Water Production Facility in the HCHB. Develops and implements preventative maintenance programs for building HVAC systems, ensuring the reliability and longevity of equipment and infrastructure. Tracks, schedules, and documents all installation, maintenance, and repair activities, ensuring efficient work order management and accurate recordkeeping. Collaborates with other departments and contractors on projects requiring HVAC system expertise, ensuring proper integration of building systems into the overall building design and operation. Conducts regular inspections and assessments of building HVAC systems to identify potential hazards, maintenance issues, or performance improvements, and develops corrective action plans as needed.
