Military Grades: E5-E6 Compatible Military Assignments: 15 Series GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training that has provided the candidate with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications. Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification. Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow. Must have the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The incumbent is required to climb, stand, stoop, bend, stretch and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts parts and equipment weighing up to 20 pounds. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing over 50 pounds. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The incumbent works inside and outside in inclement weather, on icy or slippery ramps, aircraft surfaces and work stands, and in temperature and humidity extremes and is subject to the danger from exposure to an environment of toxic fumes, high pressure air and fluids, fast actuating metal aircraft surfaces, such as rotor heads, landing gear, explosive munitions, weapons, engine noise, heat, blast, intake suction, fast moving main gear box devices, rotating shafts, cartridge actuating devices, electrical voltage, fire and explosion caused by aircraft fuels, solvents, lubricants, paints and dusts, sharp edges, confined spaces. As an Aircraft Mechanic, WG-8852-12, you will: Manage, monitor or perform overall maintenance, servicing, inspections and documentation for one or more highly technical, high performance military aircraft. Perform work in complex conditions under time and/or mission constraints to include all weather and night operations. Work with, coordinate and oversee the work of lower graded aircraft mechanics and certify the work of journey level workers in other trades working on the assigned aircraft. Perform damage assessments and repairs. Participate in mission preparation and recovery operations. Oversee installation of equipment for special missions. Expedite aircraft operations to include concurrent servicing, refueling, and/or reconfiguration of equipment for changes in operational missions. Perform preflight, thru flight, and post-flight inspections and scheduled or unscheduled maintenance. Serve as the technical authority to identify and advise on requirements for airframe, mechanical, electrical/environmental, avionics, engine, and pneudraulic repairs on assigned aircraft. Work closely with maintenance supervisor(s) and production control personnel to report and maintain current aircraft status. Request maintenance services exceeding AASF capabilities or time constraints. Control and perform work assignments based upon priorities, workload, availability of parts, facilities, material and personnel. Coordinate with maintenance supervisor(s) and production control on maintenance requirements to aircraft that require adjustment to changes in operational requirements. Observe and inspect performance of other workers work to insure compliance with applicable technical publications, directives and local policy. Accomplish operational tests of aircraft systems and components. Oversee ground movement of aircraft. Incumbent launches, recovers, parks and services aircraft. Make diagnoses and solve malfunctions of aircraft systems and components by utilizing a wide variety of complex, state of the art computerized and/or non-computerized Test Measurement Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE); by studying layout drawings, blueprints and wiring diagrams; and analyzing specifications and operating characteristics of aircraft and their components. Assist AVCRAD/DEPOT level maintenance activities on individual assigned aircraft discrepancies as required. Ensure Unit Level Logistics-Aviation (ULLS-A) and other aircraft documentation accurately reflect status and air worthiness of assigned aircraft.
