AIRCRAFT SURVIVAL AND FLIGHT EQUIPMENT REPAIRER - Air Education and Training Command

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the GENERAL EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE GROUP. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of a WG-4818-09, AIRCRAFT SURVIVAL AND FLIGHT EQUIPMENT REPAIRER. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures related to aircraft survival. Knowledge of TS-24B and RCTS 300 radio tester. Knowledge in the application of inspection procedures and techniques involved with aircraft survival equipment e.g., parachutes, oxygen masks, G-Suits. Knowledge of TS-24B and RCTS 300 radio tester. Knowledge in the application of inspection procedures and techniques involved with aircraft survival equipment e.g., parachutes, oxygen masks, G-Suits, helmets, and survival kits. Substantial knowledge of the functions, operational characteristics, installation, and arming and dearming procedures of egress systems. Basic knowledge of the unit assigned aircraft. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Frequently handles objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Required to lift, reach, bend, walk, pull, push, sit and stand for prolonged periods of time. Required to work in awkward positions. WORKING CONDITIONS: TThe majority of the work will be performed in an air-conditioned shop, however some tasks will require travel to the flightline in hot, cold, and inclement weather. Some danger involved in handling munitions and high pressure oxygen cylinders, possible flash fires; exposure to ionizing radiation if broken compasses are mishandled; failure to ensure safety pins are installed on ejection seat aircraft could result in serious injury or death when installing survival kits on aircraft. When performing helmet assembly and molding operations, workers are exposed to high temperatures and fumes from adhesives containing eye and skin irritants. Workers may also be exposed to body fluids while cleaning oxygen equipment. The supervisor will provide personal Protective Equipment (PPE). PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. -Monitors and schedules a variety of life support equipment for routine and periodic inspections. Coordinates with military training officers to schedule parachute fitting sessions for students and instructor pilots. Responds to and documents calls involving false Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT) signals. Uses an electronic tracking device to locate and silence false ELT signals. -Conducts periodic inventories of helmet and mask supplies. Coordinates with military training officers to schedule helmet molding operations, and mask fitting sessions for student and instructor pilots. Conducts briefings on the use, care, and handling of life support equipment to student and instructor pilots. -Coordinates, schedules, inspects, fits, adjusts, cleans and performs maintenance on anti-g garments. Coordinates with military training officers to schedule anti-g garment fitting sessions for student and instructor pilots. -Monitors, schedules and coordinates the maintenance and inspection of survival kits and components. Inspects, repairs and packs CNU-129/P survival kits and Parachute Spacer Kits (PSK). Conducts periodic inventory of parachute spacer kit lockers and spare equipment lockers. -Performs clerical duties in support of maintaining inventory, and reporting results of QCis to through an automated system. Inputs results of the QCis into the computer database.
