Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Physical Effort Subjected to sustained physical effort in the operation of power boilers and steam distribution systems: physical requirements may include working from ladders, scaffolds, and platforms where parts of the system are in hard-to-reach places. Work is carried out in tiring positions such as standing, crouching, stooping, kneeling, and prone for long periods of time. Will be required to lift up to fifty (50) pounds as well as push and pull loads, climb ladders to thirty (30) feet and endure prolonged periods of walking, crouching, sitting, and standing. Most of the work is performed indoors, but occasionally service is performed outdoors and subject to adverse weather conditions. Employee is subject to hazards of refrigerants, fumes, boiler bursts, steam blow back, flame blow backs, scalding water, burns and electrical shock. Work done inside is usually dirty, dusty, and greasy and may contain asbestos or in areas where bad smelling fumes are present which may require respirators and will include working with flammable and toxic liquids. Outside work includes exposure to temperature extremes, high noise levels, drafts, dampness, water, and noise for work conditions. Frequently encounters ladders, catwalks, confined spaces, ladders, scaffolds, etc., and is subjected to hazards normally encountered in the trade Serves as the Boiler Plant Equipment Mechanic in the Maintenance and Operations (M&O) section within the Engineering Services, at the Marion Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Marion, Illinois. This facility includes Medical and Surgical clinics, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Operating Room (OR), and Community Living Center (CLC) services. In addition to the hospital itself, support services are provided to Evansville Health Care Center (EHCC) and Community Based Outpatient Center (CBOC's) as well as Veterans Centers. The primary purpose of this position is to accomplish equipment replacement, maintenance, repair, and operations for the entire Boiler Plant and steam piping systemDuties include but are not limited to the following: Installs, maintains, and repairs a variety of complex equipment and systems involving power boilers with complicated components, critical requirements, and rigid tolerances Repairs, troubleshoots, and maintains single-and-multiple fuel power boilers and associated auxiliary and pollution control equipment such as water treatment systems, chemical dispensers Monitors and tests the operation of power boiler systems to identify malfunctions and potential problems with equipment such as automatic controls, valves, piping, pumps, and related components Responsible for repairing, operating, and maintaining steam fire tube boilers operating on dual fuel fired boilers, which use oil as a standby energy s
