HEAVY MOBILE EQUIPMENT MECHANIC - U.S. Coast Guard

Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of the position rather than the length of experience. Eligibility will be determined by the relevance, scope, and quality of all experience and training, regardless of where or how acquired. Applicants will be rated and ranked based on their knowledge of the following job elements: Ability to Do the Work of the Position without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT ELEMENT) Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Includes Blueprint Reading) Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, and Repair, etc. Technical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic) Troubleshooting Use of Measuring Instruments National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You will serve as a HEAVY MOBILE EQUIPMENT MECHANIC and be responsible for maintenance and repair of Sector Mobile's physical base consisting of approximately thirty-five acres, thirteen buildings and structures with over sixty pieces of industrial support equipment.. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Complete a full-range of maintenance processes such as disassembly, repair, overhaul, modification, alignment, diagnosis, and testing to various types of equipment and vehicles Identify the composition, operation and working relationship for heavy duty major components and systems Apply skill in measuring, fitting and installing internal and external components and aligning and adjusting items to assure effective operation of a complete system and or vehicle
