Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic - U.S. Army Joint Munitions Command

Current Army Sustainment Command/Tooele Army Depot Employees Consideration will also be given to current Army employees with personal competitive status. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic without more than normal supervision. Read established wiring diagrams to trace and repair electrical circuits on Railroad Maintenance of Way (MOW) equipment. Follow manufacturer instruction manuals to perform scheduled maintenance and replace damaged components on heavy diesel-powered truck-tractors and semi-trailers. Calibrate electrically operated gauges and uses specialized mechanic tools to isolate system failures on power generators. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Trouble Shooting Use of Measuring Instruments Physical Efforts: Lifts, carries, and pulls parts of units, test equipment, and tools weighing up to 45 pounds. Lifting devices are available for heavier items. Kneels, stoops, crouches, and stands for long periods of time. Climbs ladders or reaches above head to work on components and assemblies. Required to drive and/or ride in semi tractor-trailers or panel vans for extended periods of time. Working Conditions: Works inside shops, generator enclosures, control units, and frequently outside. Subject to fumes, extremes of weather conditions, and occasionally is in close proximity to high-voltage lines and equipment. Subject to serious injury or death by contact with high-voltage lines and to less serious cuts and bruises when handling tools and materials. Frequently exposed to dirt and grease, which soils hands and clothing. Perform complex, depot-level overhauls and rebuilds on diesel-electric locomotives, GEN-SET engines, and propulsion/braking systems to ensure operational readiness. Diagnose and troubleshoot intricate mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical system malfunctions under challenging field and shop conditions. Utilize specialized electronic diagnostic equipment, load boxes, and precision measuring instruments to calibrate gages and conduct road/load testing. Interpret engineering blueprints, schematics, and complex electrical wiring diagrams to plan layouts and execute repairs on prototype or modified equipment. Rebuild highly complex assemblies, including intricate fuel-injection systems, and fabricate specialized replacement parts when standard spares are unavailable. Service, maintain, and repair auxiliary support equipment, including heavy rail cranes, hopper cars, Maintenance of Way (MOW) equipment, and power generators. Improvise repair techniques and safe technical solutions when dealing with non-standard machinery or when standard manufacturer manuals do not suffice.
