This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION: Operating and maintaining electric distribution systems. Using hand tools, power tools, and power assist equipment required. Testing and repairing of Power Plant equipment. Repairing large, slow speed diesel engines, and auxiliary equipment such as large hot water boiler, emergency diesel generators, air compressors, lube oil centrifuges, water treatment systems, etc... Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will assist the Electric Power Controller in power plant operations. You will work independently on assignments related to preventive maintenance inspections, testing, and repair of plant equipment of moderated complexity. You will assist as a helper to maintenance personnel in the repair of large slow speed diesel engines and auxiliary equipment. You will assist the Electric Power Controller during evening and night shifts. You will make operating adjustments, and secure diesel engines and related auxiliaries. You will take readings and monitor all engine gauges and meters for proper performance. You will perform preventive maintenance on large diesel engines, pumps, compressors, boiler, and other plant equipment.
