INSTRUMENT MECHANIC - Commander, Navy Installations Command

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION: Ability to maintain mechanical and electrical systems. Ability to troubleshoot electrical systems. Ability to utilize basic knowledge of electrical systems. Ability to use a variety of sensitive, calibrated, and precision trade specific instruments and equipment. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will test devices/instruments repaired and/or calibrate as follows: thread gauges, micrometers, dial indicators, electronic tachometers, thermometers, etc. You will calibrate special system pressure gauges and flow meters used in wastewater systems including verification of (chemical) cleanliness by use of the spectrometer. You will clean, inspect and test operates test devices and instruments to determine whether they are operating properly. You will repair or replace defective parts, refurbish/finish replacement parts that must be custom fitted.
