Maintenance Mechanic - Mover/Installer - Veterans Health Administration

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/12/2026. DRIVER'S LICENSE REQUIREMENT: Applicants must possess a valid, unrestricted State driver's license, have a safe driving record, and demonstrate that he or she is medically qualified to operate the appropriate motor vehicle safely. Applicants are required to pass agency Government Vehicle Drivers physical examination. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, the ability to perform the duties of the Maintenance Mechanic - Mover/Installer without more than normal supervision. Related experience includes: Performing all types of general and finish carpentry, as well as any incidental plastering or painting required for the repair, alteration, and maintenance of buildings and furnishings. Laying out work, determining material and equipment needs; planning and accomplishing a wide range of work sequences, from basic repairs to complex project segments; using initiative and judgment in accomplishing work assignments; ordering materials to maintain a working stock and requisitions materials for routine work and projects; preparing surfaces using accepted methods and techniques; providing proper care, maintenance, and use of assigned tools and equipment; operating forklifts; platform, panel, van, stake, crew cab, and pickup trucks. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Major duties include but are not limited to: Operates platform, van, stake, panel, flatbed, van, crew cab and pickup trucks as well as a forklift. Transports and delivers supplies, furniture, linen, waste, and interior design furnishings. Ensures supplies, linens, furniture/furnishings, and cargo are protected from the weather and is properly secured to prevent damage while in transit. Assists in coordinating movement and delivery of furniture and other items. Responsible for maintaining the furniture & supplies inventory in Facilities Maintenance Service Maintenance & Repair furniture storage warehouses, the issue and receipt of new furniture, supplies, equipment, and other required items. Evaluates and determines which excess furniture will be reissued, refinished, or discarded. Uses skilled techniques to construct, install, repair, and modify wood and wood substitute furniture for items requiring close tolerance fit and structural soundness. Plans, assembles, and completes projects from layouts to final assembly. Interprets drawings, blueprints, and specifications independently, and determines the layout and work sequences and types of related materials. Lays, repairs, and installs counter tops and other similar items.
