To qualify at the GS-13 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis. Facilitate vessel inspection instruction for personnel at varying experience levels across navigation, communications, alarms, lifesaving, firefighting, machinery, electrical, and pollution prevention systems. Understand and use international and U.S. maritime safety, security, and environmental rules, including SOLAS, ISM, MARPOL, and relevant U.S. regulations. Use the designated information management system to document and support vessel inspection activities. Apply Coast Guard prevention PQS processes, serve as or qualify as a Verifying Officer, participate on marine inspector qualification boards, and support AMI systems. You will serve as a Marine Inspector (Senior Verifying Officer) and be responsible for implementing the Marine Inspector qualification program, providing technical expertise and training leadership, ensuring compliance with maritime safety and vessel inspection requirements, maintaining institutional knowledge, supporting inspection programs, and representing the Inspections Division in commercial vessel safety matters. . Review vessel plans, safety management systems, operating systems, documentation, and certificates for regulatory compliance. Conduct and instruct inspections of vessel navigation, communications, alarms, lifesaving, firefighting, and pollution prevention systems. Lead inspection and specialty teams for complex or large domestic vessel inspection projects. Develop unit training, on-the-job training, and qualification processes; co-chair the marine inspection qualification board. Verify PQS and prerequisite training completion with the MITO and recommend MI/PSCO qualifications to the certification authorit.
