Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of the position rather than the length of experience. Eligibility will be determined by the relevance, scope, and quality of all experience and training, regardless of where or how acquired. Applicants will be rated and ranked based on their knowledge of the following job elements: 1. Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision. (SCREENOUT) 2. Knowledge of Equipment Assembly Installation, Repair, etc. 3. Technical practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) 4. Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprinting reading) 5. Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment. 6. Knowledge of Materials. 7. Trouble Shooting National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Assisting higher level worker by performing specific simple and routine tasks involving in the installing, maintaining, repairing, adjusting and testing of marine vessel mechanical equipment. Using power and hand tools to drill and mount such miscellaneous equipment as electronic gear, small pumps and controllers. Assisting in the operating of portable power tools by holding and setting up tools. Obtaining tools, supplies and materials and delivering them to work site as directed. Mandatory training is required which must be successfully completed and other training may occur as necessary for success in the position.
