SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The incumbent works in all kinds of weather conditions while operating trash trucks or any other vehicles he/she uses. He/she drives in congested traffic conditions and at times on icy, slippery, and wet roads, and is exposed to possibility of serious accidents. It is necessary for the incumbent to take extra precautions and be very watchful for patients who might be in the work area. The incumbent backs into narrow driveways and in close areas to be able to attach trash dumpsters and containers for emptying. He/she also drives and backs into close places and through doorways when emptying the trash trucks at the disposal site. The incumbent is subjected to loud engine and road noise for long periods of time and to hot and cold temperatures. He/she works in the rain as well as other unfavorable weather conditions. The incumbent is subjected to many germs and diseases while handling waste materials. He/she is subjected to dirt, dust, grime, grease, fumes, pungent odors, cleaners, disinfectants, and deodorizers. Duties include, but not limited to: Collects trash/garbage from pickup points by operating truck controls to empty into the trash compactor body of the vehicle Operates controls to compress trash/garbage and to empty the load at the disposal site when fully loaded Operates a pick-up truck to collect trash and garbage from all free-standing exterior trash/garbage and cigarette butt containers located campus wide on patios, porches, parking lots, loading docks, picnic, and break areas, etc. Cleans the trash trucks after each use by spraying with cleansers, disinfectants, deodorizers, and insecticides and by use of high pressure hot and cold water Trash dumpsters are cleaned by the same method Keeps areas around trash containers clean and work areas are also kept clean and in good condition Performs preventive maintenance on trash trucks by greasing bearings and fittings on all working parts of the truck, checking fluids (hydraulic fluid, engine oil, cooling system liquid and battery liquid) checking tires for proper pressure, etc. Performs transportation duties at the directions of the Transportation & Grounds Supervisor, to include the pickup and/or delivery of a variety of materials and supplies as needed by the various Services Service Lines at the facility Assists in maintaining the Medical Center's GSA fleet vehicles by washing, cleaning, fueling vehicles, picking up newly acquired vehicles or delivering turned in vehicles and driving vehicles to repair shops for routine maintenance, etc. Preferred Experience: Must have a valid Class B Commercial Driver License. Experience operating a 66,000lb GVW truck with ten wheels and diesel operated engine and equipped with a hydraulically operated trash compactor. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 5AM-1:30PM, CST.
