This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position: Performing mechanical and automotive electrical repairs for various types of Ground Support Equipment; Examining ground support equipment to: locate area of defective operation/breakdown, diagnose malfunction, determine depth of repair or rework required, and material requirements; Assembling and reassembling various systems and components of ground support equipment and replacing or repairing parts to complete repairs; and Measuring and working within close tolerances, clearances, and specifications. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will troubleshoot repairs, modify, and test a variety of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and air conditioning aviation ground support units. You will disassemble various systems and components of Aviation Ground Support Equipment and replaces or repairs necessary parts such as bearings, ignition units, magnate units, steering systems and similar assemblies. You will repair, align, inspect and test various systems, such as power drives, transmissions, clutches, hydraulic actuators, pumps, valves and control systems. You will remove and replace major components such as engines (diesel and gas), generators, and jet start engines.
