This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: I have the ability to perform the following tasks: receiving, segregating, identifying, classifying, storing, processing, and disposing of hazardous waste as well as primary, secondary, and tertiary wastewater treatment processes, specifically for industrial wastewater containing heavy metals, chemicals, and other industrial byproducts; operating and maintaining wastewater treatment equipment (e.g., pumps, meters, clarifiers, sludge thickeners) and material handling equipment (e.g., forklifts, trucks) as well as pH meters and dissolved oxygen meters. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. This position is in the Facilities and Infrastructure Management Department, Environment Division, Fleet Readiness Center East Detachment in Kinston, NC. This multi-trade position will perform various duties as Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator and Hazardous Waste Disposer, dependent upon workload requirements. You will perform wastewater treatment and monitor wastewater treatment equipment.
