Biological Science Technician (Fish) - U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service

Only experience and education obtained by 08/04/2026 will be considered. In order to qualify for this position you must possess both the Basic Requirement and Minimum Qualification. Minimum Qualification GS-07 One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level in Federal service. Specialized experience includes: (1) planning the logistics of (e.g., establishing schedules and following procedures to accomplish fish rearing) feeding and caring for fish, and carrying out multi-faceted fish propagation activities (spawning, egg care, sorting, sampling, stocking) at a fish hatchery; (2) use established procedures to collect data daily, weekly, and monthly and organize data and train others in data entry; (3) maintaining and using complex fish culture equipment; and (4) using specialized techniques and methods to culture fish. NOTE: Your resume must contain sufficient information in these areas to be found qualified. OR One full year of graduate-level education that is directly related to the work of the position (e.g., major study in fish biology, aquaculture or fish culture, limnology, ichthyology, etc.) One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended. OR A combination of education and experience as described in 1 and 2 above which together equals 100% of the requirement. Minimum Qualification GS-08 One year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience includes: 1) Preparing, maintaining or using fish and wildlife propagation equipment; 2) Leading all activities of fish propagation; 3) Collecting and preparing biological and water quality data; 4) Communicating with others to exchange information regarding changes in fish production strategies and implementation. Two years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree -OR- possess a master's or equivalent graduate degree that is directly related to the work of the position (e.g., major study in fish biology, aquaculture or fish culture, limnology, ichthyology, etc.). One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement.
