QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS: To qualify for this position, you MUST meet all of the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement. To qualify at the GS-11 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-10 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis: Assisting with engineering tests; testing, troubleshooting, repairing, or maintaining electronic or mechanical equipment and systems; and collecting or documenting technical test data. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis: Performing technical engineering work such as planning and conducting engineering tests or experiments; developing, adapting, or modifying test equipment, prototypes, electronic or mechanical systems; troubleshooting complex technical problems; and analyzing test data to evaluate performance and recommend changes to equipment, test methods, or procedures. You will serve as an Engineering Technician and be responsible for serving as a key member supporting project managers and engineers in the execution of the Research and Development portfolio. Duties and responsibilities include Lead Field Test Technician, Laboratory Technical Manager, and Laboratory Equipment Manager, providing testing and engineering support to the various projects in the R&D portfolio which include elements of all 11 Coast Guard missions and a multidisciplinary ability/understanding in the fields of sensors, maritime electronic and mechanical systems, communication systems, and data transfer systems. Typical work assignments include: Providing technical leadership in evaluating and recommending the adoption of new or enhanced testing approaches for integration into the testing process. Testing, installation, repair, modification, and maintenance of equipment of electronic and mechanical systems. Performing work of a broad scope in the design, buildup, adaptation, and modification of systems or component parts, which are part of complex experimental research tests. Preparing engineering evaluation tests of equipment such as prototypes of experimental hardware conceived and designed by engineers. Troubleshooting, adjusting, modifying, and improving test systems to provide support that minimizes interruptions in the ability to carry out critical testing and evaluation functions within the organization. Developing novel research instruments, test devices or prototype components with difficult performance requirements or where techniques or components in combination or application differ from previous uses. Resolving problems in conducting tests that are often new, unique or offer significant technical challenges since the details are not reviewed or discussed in scientific literature or validated by known precedents.
