Requirements Continued... As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period during which your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest will be evaluated. This probationary period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest, meet the organization goals and mission of the agency, and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the service. In determining if your employment advances the public interest, the agency will consider: your performance and conduct; the needs and interests of the agency; whether your continued employment would advance organizational goals of the agency or the Government; and whether your continued employment would advance the efficiency of the Federal service. To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT). Examples of experience: Under normal supervision, perform common maintenance tasks, ensuring the preservation and repair of historical buildings. Working knowledge in two or more trades, including carpentry, painting, masonry, roofing, motor vehicle operation, and minor plumbing and electrical work. Experience in solving common problems and can accomplish a variety of maintenance assignments independently and safely. Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprints reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation Repair, etc. Knowledge of materials Technical Practices (theoretical precise, artistic) Use of Measuring Instruments If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT factor above is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration. The following are common daily duties: Assists higher graded workers with the less complex carpentry tasks in constructing and repairing building features and components of historic structures. Performs painting tasks, such as the use of brushes, rollers, sprayers, preparation of surfaces, paint and material selection for a wide variety of surfaces. Assists masons and higher graded workers with the stabilization, maintenance, and repair of historic masonry structures and surfaces of adobe, brick, stone, concreate and block. Assist in maintenance, repair and stabilization of prehistoric and historic ruins and sites. Repair and modify wood components of historic structures. Performs grounds maintenance tasks using equipment such as lawn mowers, edgers, trimmers, and leaf/snow blowers. Physical Demands: The physical effort required is considered heavy to moderate and requires lifting or handling of objects or materials up to 50 pounds unassisted and occasionally lifting or moving heavier items with the assistance of a lifting device or other workers. The incumbent is required to work while standing, stooping, bending, crouching and climbing in tiring, awkward, and uncomfortable positions, and in all manners of environmental conditions.
